Today, each class shared their work and learning based on this special day.
Year 6 had done a workshop on what it is like to be a child involved in a war. Some of the things they talked about were really moving, so for their assembly they decided to think about what peace meant to them. Using the letters PEACE IS they came up with concepts, pictures that represented peace: equality, participation, island in the sea, school and friends were some of the ideas they shared with us.
From Year 2 Juan and Alexandra explained that they had looked at symbols of peace and they shared their display board with us. We saw they had made origami doves and tried their own Picasso-style drawings that included peace symbols such as doves, olive branches and human faces.
Year 4/5: The children thought about all the countries in the world where there was violence and war. They made planes with the flag and messages of peace for that country. Dària spoke about Ghandi, someone she is studying for topic, who obtained independence for his country through a campaign of non-violence. Alejandro, Maria, Eric, Dària, Paula and Aina shared their messages for countries such as the USA, Egypt, Afghanistan, Mali and Syria.
Chloé explained that Nursery and Reception had thought about friendship and made a dove using their handprints.
Year 1 also developed the theme of friendship and working together as a team. Martina, Pol and Jaume came to the front to show us the peace mandala that the class had made as a team. The mandala had lots of pictures of peaceful things on it in peaceful colours. While they were working, they thought about all the things that make us peaceful, such as kindness and sharing.
Year 3 had also learned more about peace symbols, and listened to some music that helps us reach for peace. They then gave a fantastic rendition of one of the songs they had learned: War, what is it good for?
