ISCAT celebrated the ‘International Day of the Forest’, on March 21st 2019. The day is celebrated to share the significance of looking after natural areas within our community and use them as a learning resource. Years 1-9 visited Malhivern forest for the morning. The children took part in four different activities: mud painting, shelter building, a sensory walk and yoga. The children were split into mixed aged groups where they showed respect and unity by working together to complete the different tasks. The children enjoyed using the forest to learn new things and making use of the natural resources available.
Nursery and Reception also participated by visiting a different local area. The children made crowns from natural materials and created paintings using mud and water. The children enjoyed doing the activities in a different setting. It was a great day for the children and teachers leading the activities. It was a joint effort from all the children and teachers who had been preparing for the event in advance which included making decorations and Year 6 children helping to set up the forest in the morning!
Remember you can use areas like these throughout the year to learn, play and experience nature!
