Today we are celebrating one of the ‘high’ days on the ISCAT annual calendar – WINTER APPEAL – otherwise known as ‘Blue Friday’.  Students across the school have planned, together with their teachers, a range of stalls on which they sell home-baked produce, crafts and other creative items,  the sale of which goes to the UNICEF Winter Appeal fund.

As a Rights Respecting School we are truly proud of our Blue Friday record, in which, over the past several years we have been the school to raise most money for UNICEF’s Winter Appeal both inside and outside the UK.  The activities give our students the opportunity to practise a range of skills – costing out and planning their stall, doing budget forecasts and sales predictions, and then finally seeing the results of their efforts transformed into concrete and direct support for some of the poorest and most deserving on our planet.
The excitement at school leading up to Blue Friday has been palpable this week around ISCAT.  Our wonderful team of parent delegates has spent the day preparing and decorating the hall and surrounding areas for the celebration, which kicked off at 3 pm.  Children have been excitedly setting up their stalls, and as today is a ‘no uniform’ day, we are all proudly wearing BLUE, UNICEF’s corporate colour, in its honour.
We thank all classes for their wonderfully creative stalls – from all kinds of Christmas decorations, to greeting cards, essential oil scrubs, photo frames, pencil cases, etchings and carvings, and a special thank you to Year 2 for providing the musical backing with their repertoire of Christmas carols and songs.
Thank you to all who have supported us today – we can’t wait for Monday to be able to share with you how much money we have made this Blue Friday in aid of UNICEF’s Winter Appeal!
