Catalunya has incredible places to visit and the students of Year 6 know a good number of them after studying both the physical and political geography of Catalunya.

This process has helped them not only to identify familiar places they knew or have been but to also understand the reason why they are like that. We have discussed the important rivers and their relation to the big mountains in the Pyrenees. Moreover, after reviewing the physical outlook, they have understood not only the difference between the prelitoral mountains and the big planes but also the reason why mountains like Montserrat has an intriguing shape.

In order to make this fun but nonetheless heavy learning we have used different methodologies and used an array of games and questionaires to help them learn by doing and not by heart. Identifying the culture and the traditions of this various “comarques” has also been of help when understanding their names and position in the map.

All in all, it has been great fun and Year 6 are now great people to ask for any Catalonian recommendation on great food, traditions, hikes, beaches and breathtaking views!

Do not forget to take a look at some of the activities that they have been doing in class!
