Last week, the Year 6 took small steps upstairs, to the Xavier Calls building, but they were giant steps towards Key Stage 3.
After a few informative sessions about the differences between the sciences, the students learnt about the ways in which similes enhance writing. They explored a poem written about monsters to identify the ways in which descriptive language uses comparisons to paint images in the mind of the readers. A task they completed with as much excitement as the funnest party they had ever been to.
This week, with some experience under their belt, the Year 6s tackled subjects like drama where they learnt about a variety of dramatic techniques and history where they learnt about the industrial revolution and its significance.
In science, Claire welcomed them into the laboratory and flanked by the Year 13 students, she introduced the Year 6s to the amazing apparatus that is the microscope. The students were able to examine a variety of objects up close, the excitement in the room was palpable!
Finally, the students ended this week’s transition sessions in the art room where they explored the colours and shapes that we associate with the circus. A great opportunity for them to show their artistic skills!
