Year 1 carried out a fantastic long-term science project, including our favourite outdoor activity of gardening to grow our own food. 🌻🍅🥒

Gardening teaches essential life skills, environmental awareness, healthy eating, and physical activity. 🌍💪🥗

In this project, the children found a random potato in their classroom in February. 🤔📚 They used literacy skills to predict why it was there and what to do with it.

They then donned their lab coats and explored, researched, observed, and took care of their potato. 🥼🔬 They had to be patient and trust the process. It was well worth it! 🎉

In June, they got a huge surprise when they dug up their very own plentiful potato crop. 🥳🥔 This was much more gratifying than buying a bag of potatoes at the supermarket. 🌱💚

Then, we used our cooking skills and various crops from our ISCAT vegetable patch to create a delicious and healthy potato salad. Yum! 🍽️🥗😋
