LEARNING AT ISCAT
We respect and recognise the different needs, interests and strengths of every student.
Learning at the International School of Catalunya (ISCAT) is differentiated and student-centred. With close interaction fostered between students and staff, we provide maximum opportunities in all areas of development – be it academic or our student’s personal interests and talents.
The IGCSE is taken in over 145 countries and in more than 4800 schools worldwide.

NATIONAL CURRICULUM OF ENGLAND AND WALES
As a British International School, we follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales from Early Years through to A-Levels. For our Year 10 Secondary students (at 15-16 years old), we offer the IGCSE examinations, the world’s most popular international qualification recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide.
A-Levels are the British two-year baccalaureate course of study preparing students for university. Alongside the International Baccalaureate, A-Levels are the single best-recognised university entrance exam worldwide.
EARLY YEARS
The Early Years Foundation Stage begins in Reception, with children aged between 3 and 5 years. The Early Years programme lays the foundation for every child to play an active part in their own learning, building life skills and learning tools through creative activities in a secure and nurturing environment,
PRIMARY
Children begin their Primary education in KEY STAGE 1, which is comprised of Year 1 and Year 2, honing in on the building blocks of reading and writing, using the skills of independence and creativity acquired in Early Years to build their knowledge of phonics.
SECONDARY
It begins in KEY STAGE 3 (from Year 7 to Year 9) with students aged approximately between 12 and 14 years. In KEY STAGE 4 (Year 10 and Year 11) students prepare for their I/GCSE examinations, taken at the end of Year 11. This is the “ESO” equivalent in Spain and can be convalidated by Spanish and European law.
A-LEVELS
The General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (A-Levels) is the standard British school-leaving pre-university qualification. This is a two year study programme and is equivalent to the Spanish “bachillerato”, the International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement (US).
SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS
ISCAT’s Learning Support department is led by qualified SEN practitioners who shadow the progress of all our students from the point of entry, fielding all and any concerns from teaching staff and liaising between students, teachers and parents. In addition, they help plan and deliver the programme of Emotional Education throughout the school, thus guaranteeing the emotional well-being of our students and optimising in every instance students’ opportunities and openness to the learning experience.
When ongoing specialised attention is deemed to be required, ISCAT collaborates with a series of external professionals to ensure that specific needs are met, and a visiting psychologist is available at the school weekly. Our school policy ensures that parents and other significant family members participate and are involved in all interventions, to guarantee optimum support, inclusion and development in all instances.
