On Tuesday 9th May, our Year 6 primary students had the opportunity to participate in the celebration of ´Europe Day´. The students learned to compare information in a playful way and to consume it critically. 🧐
Through different tests, the evaluation of the reliability of sources, the detection of manipulated images and the understanding of the different actors involved in disinformation were worked on. Children were able to debate and talk with experts from the @learntocheck organization and the European Commission about their experience in the fight against disinformation. 💬😄
On May 9, Europe Day is celebrated to commemorate that on that same day in 1950 the then French Foreign Minister, Robert Schuman, issued the so-called “Schuman Declaration”, in which he announced the French government’s proposal to create the European Coal and Steel Community, the first step to ensure that France and Germany will never again face war, and the embryo of what we know today as the European Union. May 9th symbolises peace, unity and solidarity and the European institutions in Barcelona organised different activities as a form of celebration @eucouncil. ⭐🥰
In Barcelona, the main event for Europe Day took place in Plaça de Sant Jaume, where a giant 22×17 meter European flag was unfurled. Twenty-two singers from the Òpera Jove de Catalunya and the Liceu Conservatory interpreted the European anthem (part of the last movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony) carrying this flag. The European flag symbolizes peace, unity, solidarity and harmony. In addition, throughout the morning, Learn to Check and the European Commission organized the disinformation gymkhana, which our ISCAT students proudly took part in. 🤩
