On Thursday 15th March we celebrated Science Day in Early Years and Primary.
The theme was water and so every class carried out an investigation based on this. Nursery and Reception focused on investigating objects looking at whether they float or sink in water. Year 1 looked at water pollution. They read the story of Harriet’s Home at Sea and discussed the ways that we can keep our Seas and Oceans free of pollution (Global Goals 6 and 14). Year 2 looked at the transport of water through celery. They used words such as absorb and transport. Year 3 investigated ´walking water´. They saw how water is absorbed and can move through materials. Year 4 looked at how to make bubbles move through water using oil and food colouring. Year 5 investigated different densities of liquids and added many liquids to form a density tower with different layers. Year 6 investigated the ´Magic Water Barrier´. They placed one glass of water over another, using warm water and cold water to decide if they could create a barrier where the water doesn’t mix.
The children thoroughly enjoyed their investigations!!!
