Emma Montgomery
HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
Emma is Head of Primary and also leads our Duke of Edinburgh Award and Forest School programmes. After a previous career as a professional dancer and choreographer across the UK, Emma obtained her BA Honours in Primary Education and Sports Studies from Liverpool Hope University. As her credentials reflect, Emma loves spending time outdoors – whether that be running in the forest, trekking in the mountains with her young family or skiing and snowboarding in winter, she offers her enthusiam and experience to our outdoor eduaction programme at ISCAT
Will Benson
HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
Will is the Year 6 teacher and Deputy Head at ISCAT, where he brings both expertise and enthusiasm to his role. He earned his BA QTS and Joint Honours in Theology from the University College of York St John. After starting his international teaching career in China, Will developed a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and travel. Although he continues to enjoy exploring new destinations, he has now settled in the Vallès Oriental. There, he delights in pursuing his interests in home renovation, sports, and crossfit, balancing his professional responsibilities with his personal passions.
Brie Edwards
EARLY YEARS TUTOR
Brie leads the Early Years department at ISCAT, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience. She earned her Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Sunderland, followed by a postgraduate course in Montessori pedagogy, which has shaped her approach to early childhood education. Brie has a deep passion for music; she enjoys singing with an a cappella group and playing the guitar. Her musical talents have led to some remarkable opportunities, including the privilege of performing at the prestigious Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, an experience she treasures.
Michelle Perez
YEAR 1 FORM TUTOR
Michelle originally worked at ISCAT from 2011-2015 in Early Years. She returned home to Newcastle in the north of England for a few years where she completed a PGCE with QTS at the University of Sunderland. During her training she worked in a large primary school in both key stage 1 & 2 taking a role in supporting the SEN department and in a bilingual Montessori setting. She brings recent pedagogies to ISCAT from both of these diverse environments. Michelle was thrilled to be able to return to ISCAT when she came back to live in Barcelona in 2022 with her young family, with who she enjoys living in the mountains, growing fruit and vegetables and looking after their animals. Michelle is an artist at heart and enjoys using this interest in and out of the classroom.
Mabelyn Lora
YEAR 5 FORM TUTOR
Mabelyn, originally from New York, has lived in Spain for several years. She earned her B.S.Ed. in Primary Education with a specialization in English from Plattsburgh, New York. After relocating to Spain, she obtained a CELTA certification to teach English as a second language. She has spent about 9 years working with children, teaching various age groups. Much of her experience is based on an outdoor education model, which she is passionate about integrating into the classroom environment. In her leisure time, she enjoys exploring new places, taking nature walks, and reading books that expand her knowledge across various subjects. She has a particular fondness for free writing, especially poetry and creative expression.
Effro Stafyli
YEAR 2 FORM TUTOR
Effro is originally from Central Greece and recently moved to Spain from the UK. She obtained her BA Hons in Primary Education from the University of Patras and continued her teaching career and studies in the UK. After relocating to London, she worked both in mainstream and special schools and acquired an MA in Special and Inclusive Education and her CELTA certification. Effro is passionate about promoting diversity and inclusion, with her motto being “Give everyone a voice”. In her leisure time, she enjoys riding her motorbike as well as exercising and sports, including padel, yoga, dancing and functional training. She also loves Balkan music and contemporary art.
Belen Hernandez
CATALAN & SPANISH TEACHER
Belén teaches Catalan and Spanish in Early Years and Year 2. She graduated in Primary Education from the University of Barcelona. During her university studies, she had the opportunity to participate in an academic exchange through the ERASMUS programme at University College Cork in Ireland, where she gained valuable international experience and new educational perspectives. Belén inspires students by bringing local Catalan culture into the classroom in the form of storytelling, music, and local festivities. In addition to her passion for teaching, in her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her young family, cooking, dancing, and practising Pilates.
Anna Trebaczyk
YEAR 3/4 FORM TUTOR
Anna originally worked in ISCAT in 2012/13 and is thrilled to return to the team. She is a highly experienced and adaptable teacher with over 15 years’ experience. She completed her teacher training in Goldsmiths College, University of London, where she specialised in teaching modern foreign languages in KS2. Prior to training to become a teacher she studied English Literature at Newcastle University: Her passion for storytelling and creativity is always apparent in her teaching. Anna´s teaching philosophy is that for children to excel they need to enjoy, so she strives to make the classroom a fun place. Anna has two young children who occupy most of her free time, but when she does get a minute to herself, she loves to watch spooky movies.
Nuria Mayoral
CATALAN & SPANISH TEACHER
Núria teaches Catalan and Spanish in Key Stage 2. She earned degrees in Early Childhood and Primary Education from the Universitat de Barcelona. Her journey has been shaped by volunteering at a school in Eastleigh, studying in Sweden, and working at a preschool in Dublin. Her passion for the outdoors and her international experiences led her to research the outdoor education approach in Catalonia. She also completed her Forest School Educator certificate from Temps de Bosc Association, recognised by the Department of Education. Núria inspires students by integrating Catalan culture and Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) into her lessons. In her spare time, she loves cooking, especially baking, and hiking.
Sara Cillan
MUSIC TEACHER
Sara teaches music in Primary and Theatre Arts in Key Stage 3. Sara holds a degree in Early Childhood Education from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, with a specialisation in Music and a Masters degree in Music Therapy from ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya) in Barcelona. She finished her degree in Munich, Germany where she worked for a year and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing a new culture and news ways of teaching and learning. Sara has sung in choirs all her life, and between the ages of 12 and 18 travelled all over Spain and Europe singing in concerts and doing ‘exchanges’ with other choirs. Apart from her obvious passion for music, Sara also loves sports – in particular, swimming, running, dancing and hiking – and enjoys watercolour painting and gouache.
Imma Roger
EARLY YEARS ASSISTANT
Imma brings a diverse international background and a passion for working with children to our team. At 19, she moved to New York, USA, as an au pair and later earned a BA in Business Administration from Baruch College. After seven years in the business sector, Imma and her family relocated to London, and later lived briefly in Osaka, Japan. In 2007, Imma moved to The Netherlands, where she spent 15 years working as a teaching assistant at an international school, supporting students from group 0 to group 5. Two years ago, she relocated to Barcelona, reconnecting with her own culture. Last year, she worked as an art assistant, exploring different art techniques. In her free time, Imma enjoys walking her dog, creating Japanese-Spanish fusion recipes, and attending Zumba classes. She is dedicated to helping young children grow into confident, independent, and caring individuals.
Isaura Duran
SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST
Isaura is our school Psychologist. She graduated from the University of Barcelona with a degree in Child and Youth Psychology in 1998, with a Masters in learning disabilities and a postgraduate course in psychomotor therapy. She also holds a Practitioner qualification in NLP and has a wide experience in clinical psychology. She has owned a psychology surgery since 2000 and has been working as a school counselor and educational psychologist for nearly 20 years. She joined ISCAT in 2013, forming part of the SEN Department and provides support and guidance to students with emotional or learning difficulties. She also advises teachers and families, liaises with external professionals and works together with our SENDCO. In her free time Isaura loves cooking and sports and regularly practices swimming and goes hiking.
