The last two weeks in Year 3 we have been talking about uniqueness. In Spanish class we read the picture book Wonder. Todos somos únicos. This is a story about a boy who doesn’t look ordinary but with the love of his mother, the companionship of his dog and his pretend play as an astronaut all help him to momentarily escape the unkindness and unacceptance of his peers and, at the same time, holds out the hope that “people can change the way they look at others”. We talked about how we all are different, our bodies are different, we are good at different things and we also like different things. All of this is what makes us unique and we all have the right to be treated equally and well, despite our differences. We have created some posters about ourselves called ‘This is me!’ to remind ourselves that we have to be kind to each other because if you can choose to be anything, be kind.
